Telehealth Therapy with Dr. Michael Retallick

About me

I'm a licensed psychologist working with people in the state of Washington and received my doctorate from Pacific University.

I practice from a systems theory lens and incorporate acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness. I often use CBT for handling individual issues and ACT for coping with the systemic issues and other life challenges that are often beyond the control of my client to change currently.

A trauma-informed lens allows me be a more empathic and compassionate clinician, and I can then assist my clients develop greater self-compassionate and insight into the functionality of their behavior in relation to past trauma. To avoid labeling concerns that are tied to the systems and societies in which we live as cognitive distortions I employ ACT to help identify my client’s values and help them determine a course forward, despite the systemic issues that face them. I have received training in exposure and response prevention (ERP) for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and a variety of anxiety related disorders.

I have also been certified as a therapeutic game master and run therapeutic games of Dungeons and Dragons.
